Forklift Components in More Detail
There are hundreds of parts which make up a forklift. The lift truck's main parts consist of the truck frame, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Moreover, a lift truck consists of a range of attachments. All the parts which make up a forklift are all essential because they work together to make the equipment's functions possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail a few of the forklift components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits on top of the cab area and protects the machinery operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will hurt the driver or damage the controls in the cab. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on some units.
The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move up and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast may be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and different other kinds of attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To enable the forks to be lowered and raised, the carriage can have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - a range of attachments may be fixed to the front of the forklift truck. The most common type of attachment is forks. Moreover, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These different attachments are useful for moving different kinds of loads.
