Types

Function

These models are a lot more cost effective and reliable compared to the conventional DC or direct current technology. AC forklifts were designed to provide high power indoor applications. Usually, a battery of 36 to 80 volts is utilized to get the power and torque necessary. The AC technology enables a longer time period in between recharging. This enables the forklift to be used for longer periods of time. Additionally, the AC motors are completely enclosed and this lessens dust and exposure with no motor brushes, meaning less sparking and a lot less maintenance.
Advantages
Being able to eliminate your maintenance gives you more time to concentrate on your visit and saves you a little money. As previously discussed, AC technology does not have motor brushes which also lowers maintenance and increases productivity. Another bonus is that AC motors have less wearable parts resulting in savings on components and labor. AC motors are overall much quieter compared to DC motors and this helps increase operator awareness on the jobsite.
Manufacturers
Today, there are many manufacturers that offer AC power forklifts. Some of the available brands consist of Hyundai, Raymond, Mariotti, Yale and Hyster.
Sideloaders have become a terrific alternative for a lot of businesses needing to perform handling tasks on unconventional cargo. Sales of these models are small however, taking up one percent to 5% of the global forklift market.
Commonly, side-loaders are utilized within the timber, aluminum, glass, steel, aviation and construction industries. Moreover, they are utilized within businesses that are producing unusual items including moldings, and windmill arms. Basically any industry which makes oversized long or awkward items uses the side-loaders.
During the start of the 1950's, Henry Le Grande Lull from the Lull Manufacturing Company originally designed the sideloader forklift. These early units were requested from the US Air Force. The original idea was patented for commercial utilization but it was not made until Lull Manufacturing was taken over by the Baker Raulang Company during 1959. It was Baker Raulang who produced the design. Later, the name was changed to Baker Traveloader. In the latter part of the 1950s, the side-loaders were introduced to Europe. The early models were designed by Italian manufacturer Fiora and the afterwards B-P Battioni e Pagani who pioneered the equipment's use within timber yards.
Side-loaders differ a little from forward traveling, counterbalance forklifts in that they have their forks situated on the side of the machine. The operator drives the machine sitting in a cabin like a traditional forklift. The loading, unloading and lifting functions are performed by the mast situated at the driver's right-hand side. The load is typically transported lying on a metal or wooden deck. This helps to decrease stress, distortion and damage to the cargo. Recent innovations to the side-loader design have incorporated a large range of lifting accessories being developed.
